ABOUT US | History, Mission & Vision

"I hope to see the day when Trans Islanders do not feel they need to leave the province they love in order to receive the respect, support and access to services that they deserve."

- Alana Daley, Treasurer

PEI Transgender Network was created in 2017 in response to the gaps in supports and resources available to the Transgender & Gender Diverse (TGD) community and their families.

Our mission is to improve the experiences of TGD people on Epekwitk [so called PEI] through providing supports and resources to the community, our families and friends, as well as professionals and the public.

We are proud to have assisted the development of the Gender Diversity Guidelines implemented in all Public Schools across PEI, as well as the establishment of PEI's first Gender Affirming Care Clinic.  We remain active in our advocacy and engagement with systems of influence such as: healthcare, education, government, and more!

We are a grassroots, non-profit organization that officially incorporated in 2021 in order to access funding to carry out the life saving and community enhancing work we do. We are committed to growth, while maintaining a trans-led organization; we uphold the common, yet crucial, sentiment of "nothing for us without us!"

Our vision is an inclusive PEI where people of all gender identities can live and thrive.

WHAT WE OFFER

ADVOCACY

We advocate for the trans community of PEI; we do this publicly by holding systems accountable, as well as privately when folks need assistance navigating discrimination in their workplace, school system, etc.

PEER SUPPORT

We provide individual and group peer support in person, over the phone, and online. We offer convenient online services through social media messaging (see bottom of the page for facebook & instagram) or you can schedule a Zoom / Web Video Conference with us via email at info@peitn.com

SYSTEMS NAVIGATION

Our team is happy to support individuals through the process of navigating a variety of systems, such as: healthcare, be it specifically for Gender Affirming Care, or general healthcare, school & education, legal name changes & gender markers, and more. To get started on accessing local TGD resources, click here!

TRAINING & EDUCATION

We provide training and education as it pertains to Gender Inclusivity, and can connect you with other training and education opportunities and providers. If you would like to hire our organization to deliver a Gender Inclusivity Workshop or Training for your team or staff, and would like more information (including: pricing and reviews) email us at info@peitn.com.

RESOURCES

We provide resources to the trans community, their families, professionals, and the public - such as: TGD affirming mental & physical health services, access to private community wellness groups, materials to support allies on their journeys of learning, unlearning & solidarity, and more! If you would like to learn more about private community wellness groups for TGD individuals & parents of TGD youth, please reach out to us at: info@peitn.com

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We host events, take part in activities, and regularly engage with the community, including our inaugural event series, Break the Cis-tem (BTC): This event series was aligned with International Transgender Day of Visibility and one of our many goals is to bring this evolving series to PEI annually as a way to celebrate trans-joy. To learn more about BTC 2023, click here!

In 2022, we took the lead on facilitating an event & programming for Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th thanks to the generosity of TD Proud of Our Pride and PEERS Alliance.

We also host and partner with local & national organizations to offer community socials, such as: our Community Clothing Swaps, International Day of Pink events with Canada's Drag Race Winner, Icesis Couture, and Stonewall Riot Courage Tour with Martin Boyce.

We co-facilitate TGD youth and adult support groups with PEERS Alliance: Roots & Shoots,  Buds.

If you have an event idea, would like to partner with us for an upcoming event, sponsor an event, or organize a fundraiser for PEITN, please send us an email at info@peitn.com
